So, what’s the point of telling you all this? Well, this reinforces
first that CAD/CAM dentistry is here to stay. Omicam, with its
thousands and thousands of users, ain’t going anywhere, and
neither is the technology. This dental CAD/CAM is no longer a
fad. More importantly, however, is the fact that you don’t see all
these events and material advancements with other CAD/CAM
systems. Only the passionate ones who are involved in CEREC
are the ones who are having so much fun with it.
Are you still on the fence about CAD/CAM? Do you still think of
it as a passing fancy? Then check out all the great videos on www.

Still on the Fence About CAD/CAM?
2012
is coming to a close, and what an
amazing year it was. Really, one word sums up
the year for the CEREC community: Omnicam.
Powder-free, ColorStreaming capture, full color —
never before have all these features been packaged
so elegantly in a camera that is so simple to use.
Thenewcamera for theCERECsystemcompletely
elevated the game for CAD/CAMand let all competitors know that
they better raise their game if they are going to compete.
Doctors unfamiliar with CAD/CAM see the Omnicam and
wonder what the big fuss is. To them, the way the Omnicam
images is the way it’s supposed to be — they are unaware of the
previous versions and the work it took to get to this point. With
Omnicam, it’s just so simple and elegant. They wonder, why the
fuss over all the powder and images over the years? Why didn’t
they do this sooner and why would you do it any other way?
It’s really easy to dismiss the past history of CEREC as irrelevant
due to how much more advanced today’s system is. But one has
to realize the time, effort and money that was spent to bring the
Omnicam to fruition. It’s new, it’s revolutionary, it’s in-demand and,
frankly, it just makes CEREC dentistry themost fun it’s ever been.
The Omnicam technology would not have been possible
without 27 years of research, development and, honestly, the
effort put in by thousands upon thousands of CEREC clinicians
who used the technology daily and gave their collective feedback.
All this led to the CEREC of today.
As good as 2012 was for CEREC users with the milestones
crossed, one can only wonder how much better 2013 will be. For
starters, there are some new-material developments that will
hopefully hit your friendly Patterson dental branch sometime in
the spring of 2013. Ivoclar, 3M and Vita should bring some new
innovations that will increase the range of use for the CEREC
system. And, of course, we are due for the annual software update
which, as you can imagine, should be a major step forward since
the4.0 software already seems a bit dated—as crazy as that sounds.
With the International Dental Show — otherwise known as
IDS — scheduled for March, we are certain to see not only new
materials and software, but also other innovations in CEREC
software updates. IDS only happens every other year, and we at
cerecdoctors.com will be taking a group of our Mentors there
for a week-long tour of not just IDS, but also Sirona and other
partner companies as we head through Germany, Switzerland,
Austria and Lichtenstein. Imagine 100-plus dental professionals

learning not only about the dental materials, but experiencing
how the dental culture in other countries compares to ours
here in the States. Talk about a great dental field trip.
In the middle of the year, we will be having our annual
cerecdoctors.com meeting at Scottsdale Center (June 20-23).
If you enjoyed the camaraderie and education of CEREC 27
and a half, then the meeting next June is a do-not-miss — great
speakers, new innovations and your yearly CEREC fix.
