So this is the reason that, starting in September, we modified
our educational offerings in cerecdoctors.com. Going forward, clini-
cians have the opportunity to learn the how of CEREC with their
cerecdoctors.com membership, and they have the opportunity to
learn the why of CEREC with a speared-
ucation.com membership. We have
combined the educational offerings of the
two entities to create a comprehensive
educational offering that will teach the
how and the why of CEREC.
Spear Education, for those who don’t
know, has hundreds of videos on all
different aspects of dentistry, and
members of the cerecdoctors.com
Academy have the opportunity to learn
from both entities. Not only do you get to learn the how and
the why of dentistry, you also get the chance to add your team
members to the subscription, allowing users to add up to 10
users to the website. Academy members can participate in
monthly webinars on all different topics, and have the opportunity
to use patient education tools with the new Spear patient educa-
tion videos.
I’ve loved the CEREC community for more than a decade.
I’ve loved sharing passion and knowledge with CEREC users
from across the world. However, in the 10 years that we have run
cerecdoctors.com, this to me has been probably the best
opportunity to learn comprehensive digital dentistry — ever.

In February of 2016, cerecdoctors.com will celebrate its
10th anniversary, and our website and hands-on training courses
have been responsible for teaching more people about the CEREC
technology than any other entity in the history of dentistry. This is
an accomplishment that my team and I
are extremely proud of.
The courses have been well received
over the years. The numbers don’t lie. We
wouldn’t have so many people coming
back for workshops or have such high
demand for spots in the workshops if the
hands-on courses weren’t great.
Having had all that experience training
clinicians to use the CEREC system in
their offices, the most important lesson
that we have learned is that it is not as critical to teach someone
how to do something as it is to teach them why you do something.
You see, in countless sessions of the different workshops at our
campus in Scottsdale, Ariz., I spent time explaining how we adjust
our occlusion on our proposals, how we create a screw-retained
crown for implants and how we fabricate multiple anterior
restorations.
But the daywe started teaching why we do somethingwas the day
that we took the education to another level.
Take the example of creating an anterior provisional implant
restoration using the CEREC system. I can show someone how to
put the appropriate pressure on the tissue to control where
the tissue will end up. That’s the easy part and we do it in our
Level 3 workshop. But the question always came up: why are
we putting this pressure on the tissue? What is the appropriate
amount of pressure? When I explained the reasoning behind it,
how to do it became that much easier.
