CAN YOU DRAW CONCLUSIONS FROM THE DATA?
The higher the value of fracture toughness of a material, the lower
the probability for failure. It supports the clinical data of a small
percentage of failures with IPS e.max CAD.
DO YOU HAVE ANY ADDITIONAL COMMENTS?
It’s important to understand the key aspects of available materials
when choosing a restorative option. All materials can be clinically
successful when used properly and in the recommended indication.
In conclusion, fracture toughness measures a material’s ability to
resist crack propagation and cracks that can occur during milling,
adjustment and clinical use. The higher the fracture toughness, the
lower the probability for failure. In short, when cracks do occur, a

tougher material can prevent the crack from propagating to failure.
Additionally, due to the inherent property of fracture toughness, it
provides a meaningful method to compare dental ceramics.
