anterior implant rehabilitation
is one of themore challenging treatments
in dentistry. Any time you work in the
esthetic zone, the demands on the clini-
cian—both surgical and restorative—are
much greater because patient expecta-
tions of treatment outcomes are much
higher. Proper planning and execution
are paramount to having a successful
treatment and a happy patient.
The following case takes a step-by-step
look at the surgical phase of an anterior
implant reconstruction from the plan-
ning phase, to the temporization phase,
to getting the patient ready to restore.
CASE STUDY
The patient is a 51-year-old female in
good health referred to me for implant
consultation and treatment. She had
orthodontic care that led to the blunting
of her maxillary anterior teeth and
premolars. The anterior teeth showed
2+ mobility. The patient had the teeth
splinted for years, but as the mobility
got worse the splinting would break
more and more often. The patient
wanted a more permanent solution to
her problem. The CT scan showed less
than 3 mm of bone left (Figs. 1-2).
An impression was taken and sent for
a diagnostic wax up. An Omnicam scan
was also done. When the wax up was
received from the lab, it was transferred
to the Omnicam digital model by way of
a Biocopy bridge (Fig. 3).
By using a bridge, we could
export all of the restora-
tions as one unit to the
