QUARTER 2
|
2016
As a consumer, you now have to wade through all the
mess of which scanner is best and which milling unit
is best. My advice, as an advocate of CAD/CAM for
more than a decade, is not to get caught up in which
is best. We are at a point where there are several
scanners on the market that do a good job of
scanning.
The question you must ask yourself is, what else can
they do? It’s not enough today to simply scan; that has become
passé. What is important is the entire ecosystem. This is, frankly,
why we have continued to be a CEREC organization instead of a
CAD/CAM organization. CEREC users have the most indications,
the most materials and the most options to fabricate restorations
or send cases to the lab.
This summer there is another great opportunity to learn more
about intraoral scanning and the ecosystemof CEREC plus another
chance to reunite with old friends, reignite your passion and love
for the CAD/CAM world we all live in. Siroworld was designed
to create an all-encompassing meeting, but frankly what gets me
excited are not the great keynote speakers, including Richard
BransonandDr. FrankSpearandothers, but theCERECtrackwhere
I plan on immersing myself in the knowledge of my colleagues.
Another great program has been put together and I hope you will
join cerecdoctors.com in supporting CEREC 31 @Siroworld.
It’s been an amazing 10 years since this cerecdoctors.com
journey started for me. And I hope that youwill joinme in the next
10 years. With the tremendous growth of our company, particu-
larly in the last three years, the future is bright. I’ll make sure we
have sunglasses for everyone.
For questions and additional information, Dr. Puri can be reached
at
Not adaygoesbywhere Idon’t have some formof commu-
nicationwith a CEREC owner in any number of places in
the world. The friendships that have been forged, and
the camaraderie developed, is all because of the love of
this technology called CEREC, which has changed
the landscape of the dental world forever.
Prior to the February launch of the ability to
mill chairside zirconia, the number of people who consid-
ered CEREC for their practice was relatively small. Seventy
percent of U.S. dentists use full-contour zirconia in the back of the
mouth. These dentists would never have considered CEREC for
their office simply because thematerial choices were not the same
as if the clinician was to send their case to the laboratory.
Today, it’s not a matter of, “Can I mill it chairside?” It’s more
like, “What would you like tomill chairside?”With all of themate-
rial choices, no doubt this opens a vast array of possibilities.
Obviously, this increase in capabilities means a whole new
workflow. Doctors who have been crystallizing and glazing will
nowbe sintering some of their restorations. And cementing is now
a viable option instead of bonding everything.
At thenext dental conference yougo to, count howmanydifferent
scanners you see. At the IDSmeeting in Koln, Germany, a few years
ago, there were no less than 30 companies, each with their own
scanner, claiming theirs to be the best and brightest of the bunch.

Our Future’s So Bright,
We Gotta Wear Shades
With Our First Decade Behind Us,
We Look Forward to the Next 10 Years
ten years ago, cerecdoctors.com was founded.
The goal of the then-fledgling company was to provide a means of
communication and exchange of ideas for all CEREC owners— and it became an instant overnight success.
While I’m proud of many achievements in my life (my kids being at the top of the list, no doubt), I think what I am most
proud of are the relationships that have I developed through the cerecdoctors.com community.
The camaraderie developed is because
of the love of this technology called
CEREC, which has changed the
landscape of the dental world forever.
