and White were used to add life and
character to the occlusal surface in an
effort to blend it inwith the surrounding
natural dentition.
step #15:
During the time that our
inlay was in the oven, the root canal
therapy was completed (Fig. 13), and
roots were obturated.
step #16:
Glass ionomer was again
used to seal the access opening, filled
just shy of the original surface as not to
interfere with the seating of the inlay
(Fig. 14).
step #17:
At this time, the inlay had
finished cooling from the oven and was
ready to be prepared for cementation.
Ivoclean, e.max red etch, andMonobond
Plus were used to clean and prepare the
restoration (Fig. 15).
step #18:
A retraction cord was
replaced to protect the sulcus and aid in
cement removal, and the tooth prepara-
tion was microetched with 50 micron
aluminum oxide. Microetching cleans
the tooth surface very well and multi-
plies the bond strength to enamel.
step #19:
The enamel was etched,
rinsed, dried and rewet with chlorhexi-
dine. A dry cotton pellet removed any
pooling moisture prior to the placement
of bonding agent.
step #20:
Multilink’s A and B bond
was applied to the preparation and
air-thinned.
step #21:
The
restoration
was
seated with Multilink resin cement.
Excess was cleaned away and the retrac-
tion cord removed in an apical-incisal
direction.
step #22:
The restoration was tack-
cured into place and finished (Fig.16).
step #23:
A Cavitron is a helpful
tool to remove excess cured cement in a
minimally traumatic way.
step #24:
The patient was shown
his “before and after” photographs of
the treated tooth #12. (Fig.1 and Fig. 17,
respectively).
It is exciting to talk about materials
and technologies that allow us, as
clinicians, to predictably get durable
restorations that fit seamlessly, look
beautifully natural and can be created
for the patient chairside in a clinically
efficient continual one-appointment
workflow. I don’t know how it gets
better than this!
