Fig. 3: By providing clear, unobstructed access to and visualization of
the teeth, OptraGate facilitates precise completion of preparations,
as well as accurate intraoral scanning for use as digital impressions
Fig. 4: Facilitating patient comfort during long procedures — as well
as ensuring that clinicians can concentrate on the specific treatment
procedures themselves (e.g., implant placement) — are enhanced
when the OptraGate retractor is used
Fig. 5: Steps involved with adhesive cementation procedures, such as
acid etching, are simplified and more predictable when the lips and
cheeks are sufficiently retracted
Fig. 6: Likewise, adhesive cementation itself is enhanced when
clinicians have a clear and unobstructed view of the treatment field
If and when dental mirrors and vacuums are used for retaining
the tongue, OptraGate enables their use in a precise and effec-
tive manner. In combination with other auxiliary equipment (e.g.,
parotid pads or sublingual cotton rolls), relative isolation of the
treatment field is optimized, resulting in more efficient and simpli-
fied treatment procedures.
OPTRAGATE FOR PREPARATION, TREATMENT PROCEDURES
Only one person is needed to insert and remove the OptraGate
retractor, and supplementary instruments are not required. This
makes procedures like tooth preparations and/or implant place-
ment simpler and more effective, since clinicians can concentrate
their efforts on the actual treatment procedure (Fig. 4). Simultane-
ously, the softness, flexibility and elasticity of the OptraGate mate-
rial yields to mouth and jaw movements in a controlled manner
during procedures, which makes it easier and more comfortable
for patients to keep their mouths open.
OPTRAGATE FOR ADHESIVE CEMENTATION TECHNIQUES
BecauseOptraGate features a flexibly snug yet gentlefit in the upper
and lower lip frenulum, intraoral pressure is minimized and mois-
ture control is enhanced — this is ideal when placing provisional
restorations, and ultimately when performing adhesive bonding
steps for definitive lithium disilicate CAD/CAM restorations (e.g.,
IPS e.max CAD) (Figs. 5-6).
Additionally, OptraGate adapts optimally to the oral cavity,
allowing it to be stretched to ensure it stays in place. Quite often,
it is difficult to retract the soft tissue sufficiently with a dental
mirror, saliva ejector and cotton rolls. Tissue retraction often
causes a defensive reaction in patients, while the use of dental
mirrors or clamps can impede restoration placement (Fig. 7) and,
ultimately, finishing and polishing (Fig. 8).
