preoperative planning yields optimal treatment results with safe,
precise, esthetic and predictable tooth replacements.
No other system can duplicate this workflow nor produce the
quality that we have come to expect from CEREC. It is gratifying
to treat my patients in this way – a way that advances the patient
experience and leads to increased productivity and a general boon
in case acceptance and new patient referrals.
I have promoted the values of CAD/CAM dentistry for some
time now and will continue to promote the advantages of the
CEREC-Galileos Integration. The addition of the IPS e.max CAD
abutment block has revolutionized my approach to restoring a
dental implant.
Here, I present a case study where these techniques and technolo-
gies were used to produce a definitive implant crown in a single visit.
ENHANCED 3-D IMAGING
The digital workflow began with a 3-D enhanced complete dental
examination utilizing Galileos which revealed an untreatable
perio-endo pathology associated with tooth #15. This diagnosis
necessitated extraction, bone grafting, implantation and restora-
tion to return this patient to a full complement of teeth (Fig. 1).
Tooth #15 was surgically removed and bone grafted with Puros
Cortico-Cancellous mineralized freeze dried bone and covered by
a resorbable membrane and a connective tissue graft (Figs. 2-3).
CEREC-GALILEOS INTEGRATION
Appropriate time for bone maturation led to CEREC-Galileos
integration in preparation for precisely planning the position of a
Straumann bone-level dental implant. The resultant bone volume
allowed for only one precise position that could avoid sinus intru-
sion. This plan was restoratively driven and done in keeping with
“the end in mind” (Fig. 4). Adequate keratinized gingival tissue
was made possible by treating this site with a connective tissue
graft during the extraction and bone grafting visit (Fig. 5).
A Straumann bone-level implant was placed in a single staged
procedure to replace the tooth four months later. The osteotomy
was prepared through the SICAT OptiGuide using the Straumann
guided surgical kit. Themaster sleeve receives the Sirona keys that
