Usually the clinicians who purchase a CEREC
and go through the cerecdoctors.com hands-on
curriculum are general dentists. Occasionally, we
will have prosthodontists who attend the program.
Dr. Boltchi is the first full-time practicing perio-
dontist who has taken the entire series of courses.
Why, youmay ask? So that he can utilize the CEREC
and Galileos, and the integration between the two
systems, to not only plan and perform surgery for
his referrals, but to also provide custom abutments
and provisionals for his referring doctors. You will
find his story fascinating.

I grew up in Germany and, after finishing middle
school at an international school, I enrolled and grad-
uated fromaGerman high school. I completed dental
school and obtained my dental degree from the
Medical University of Hannover in Germany in 1990.
I was then offered a faculty position in the depart-
ment of periodontics and operative
dentistry at the same university where
I obtained my initial perio-restorative
training. In 1994, I moved to Dallas and
was accepted into the periodontal residency program
at BaylorCollegeofDentistry and, upongraduation in
1997, I remained at the graduate periodontics depart-
ment as a full-time faculty member while practicing
part-time in private practice. In 2002, I purchased
my current periodontal specialty practice and, since
then, I have been a full-time private practitioner and
part-time faculty member in the graduate periodon-
tics residency program.

The ITI stands for International Team for Oral
Implantology, and it is an independent interna-
tional academic organization devoted to dental
implant education and research. The ITI member-
ship consists of around 15,500 members and around
900 fellows; we’re from 55 countries worldwide
and divided into 27 sections. Any dental profes-
sional interested in implant dentistry can apply
for membership. Fellows, however, are typically
individuals who have been educators in the field
of implant dentistry and fellowship is by invitation
only after being a member for a number of years and
after being nominated by three current fellows.
