With all six veneers designed and
milled, it is time for try-in to verify
accuracy of fit and that contours match
our original wax-up (Fig. 9). The
“blue-block” phase provides excellent
contrast to make the finishing touches
on anatomy and contour prior to firing.
I use a fine, tapered diamond to carefully
define facial anatomy to each restora-
tion. I chose to lightly dust the veneers
with a spray glaze following application
of gingival warmth, light incisal mottling
and a blue porcelain stain on the lingual
incisal to enhance the appearance of
translucency (Fig. 10). The light dusting
of glaze prevents the veneer from
losing the life-like anatomy and gaining
an unnatural “pearl-like” reflection.
Instead, I chose to finish them off by
polishing extraorally to give a more life-
like appearance (Fig. 11). For bonding, I
use a selective etch technique with 3M
Scotchbond Universal and Rely-X Ulti-
mate Resin. All restorations are bonded
simultaneously to aid in bonding.
Finally, the results are revealed to
the patient, and they leave thrilled to
have received such quality attention to
their smile, completed in less than four
hours. As a courtesy to the patient and
to acquire a post-op photo (Fig. 12),
we bring them back the next week for
a short, detailed cleaning around the
bonded veneers.
