WHAT WAS YOUR CEREC “LIGHT BULB” MOMENT?
Just one? Literally every time I go to Scottsdale, Ariz., to the Spear
Campus, whether it’s for a class, symposium, Accept program or
mentoring, I always take away some tidbit and the light bulb goes
off. I love hearing everyone’s ideas and figuring out how I can
apply it to that one patient or that one case.
WHAT WAS THE MOST USEFUL PIECE OF CEREC ADVICE YOU EVER RECEIVED?
I posted an anterior case a while ago that I was really proud of, and
Dr. Mike Skramstad (cerecdoctors.com Faculty), took the time to
list all of the things I did wrong and even Photoshopped a picture
of how I could have made it look better. Being a
typical woman, it was hard not to get my feelings
hurt; but then I realized that he had no malicious
intent — it was truly to make me a better dentist.
I learned more from that case than any other case
I had done, and my next cases after that were only
better because of the details that Mike provided,
rather than just saying wow that looks great.
HOW DID THE ACCEPT PROGRAM INFLUENCE YOU?
I didn’t personally go through it. It was Discovery
when I purchased mine, but I do come down and
help with ACCEPT programs and it’s really cool.
There is nothing better than getting the technology
in people’s hands, and having them discover for
themselves how easy and reliable the CEREC is —
and can be.
WHAT DID YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT THE ACCEPT PROGRAM?
Every program I have come to mentor, I have
learned something and I have been using CEREC
for nine years! I think that’s pretty cool. Even going
back to the basics, there are tricks to relearn or
questions that I get asked that I’d never thought of;
but let’s figure it out. The atmosphere is so funwith
all of the doctors putting their prejudices of what they have heard
about CEREC aside and seeing what they can create with their
own hands.
WHAT WOULD YOU TELL SOMEONE CONSIDERING ATTENDING AN ACCEPT
PROGRAM?
Go for it! What do you have to lose? You are surrounded by
colleagues who are passionate about your industry, you get
incredible food, great hotels to stay in and a few days of learning
something new. There is no high-pressure sales pitch, just a
wonderful experience and opportunity to grow your skills and
knowledge.
definitely been temporizing with Maryland Bridges. I love doing
lower anteriors and making them look real. I did a four-pontic,
two-wingedbridge that lookedpretty cool that Iwas excited about.
Now I just need the patient to come back in for a final restoration!
IF SOMEONE TOOK MY CEREC AWAY TODAY, YOU WOULD…
Take a vacation until the b*stard who took it returned it.
WHAT HAS CEREC TAUGHT YOU ABOUT DENTISTRY?
CEREC is incredibly humbling. When your prep is blown up on
the big screen and you see those imperfections that you can’t find
when you look through your loupes, it’s pretty devastating to me.

F L E M I N G
There is no doubt it’s taught me to be a better dentist with my
hand skills, my bonding and my anatomy in non-CEREC proce-
dures. I have been using CEREC long enough and tried enough
things that I have had plenty of failures — and I have learned from
every single one. The best part of CEREC, though, is how easy it is
to fix things and patients are appreciative of that.
WHAT’S THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU CAN GIVE TO OTHER CEREC USERS?
Learn from your mistakes and don’t give up if you get frustrated.
We have all been frustrated before. Also, talk to other CEREC
users! You are not alone, and there are no prep or design police. I
hate that so many dentists are afraid to ask for help or ideas.
